Nordic Walking!

I didn't know about Nordic Walking until I saw this episode of this great comedy! Thank you BBC!
I understand Nordic Walking allows you to burn 30% more calories as you walk, as you are using your arm muscles to help propel you along. The wrist straps also allow you to release your hold on the poles when you are not pushing with them, e.g. when walking downhill, so you don't have to hold onto the hand grips all the time.
Once you've got used to planting each pole opposite to the foot you are striding on, you are away! As Rebecca Front's character says in this episode "I've just got to practice my diagonal pole plant!".
