Round England Walk: Rowlands Castle to Portsmouth
The route, shown by the dotted blue line Rosie returned to the village of Rowlands Castle by train, to continue her yomp around England. Her usual system up to now, has been to travel to the start of each section by train, and return home from the nearest station to her destination for the day. This day, she had treated herself to a First Class train ticket. On entering the First Class compartment at the end of the day, after a 10 mile hike in warm weather wearing hiking gear

Self Help Book Review: The Let Them Theory, by Mel Robbins
The Let Them Theory is available as a book or Audiobook ROSIE LOVES SELF-HELP BOOKS! She has a metaphorical and literal bookshelf groaning with them... most of them are in the form of Audiobooks which she likes to listen to whilst out walking, or at night using eye mask headphones. So these little "book reviews" are very much Rosie's own reflections on books she has found particularly inspiring and helpful, and will be dotted into this blogsite as and when she can share them

Round England Walk: Chichester to Rowlands Castle
A one-day yomp of about 17 miles, shown by the blue dotted line on the above map. It started with a nice brekky at The Ivy in the attractive old city of Chichester, with its small-but-perfectly-formed cathedral. Rosie then took a somewhat meandering route along the Centurions' Way, and the Monarch's Way, to the village of Rowlands Castle. The day's starting point - Chichester Cathedral Encountering some modern sculptures of Roman soldiers along the Centurions' Way A very welc

Round England Walk: Hastings to Chichester
Rosie did this section by taking part in a Hastings Deanery pilgrimage to Chichester Cathedral, admittedly a few years ago now. But rather than hopping on the coach taking folk there on the Saturday, she spent the previous four days walking there, taking a coastal route. Here are some highlight pictures! Preparing to go... The route, marked in blue Day 1: Hastings to Eastbourne. Beach huts on the way. Day 2: Eastbourne to Seaford, via the South Downs Way, and the Vanguard Way

Liquorice Allsort Theory
Rosie doesn't like liquorice, partly because she read somewhere as a kid that it was made from rats' blood. Perhaps it was, in ye olden days, but, ingredients aside, the taste, the colour, the texture - it just doesn't appeal to her sweet tooth. But liquorice allsorts, where the nasty black confection is made more palatable by being covered with different coloured sweet layers, are more interesting as a metaphor for life. Don't you often find that society, and the organizatio

Personal Worst!
Rosie's new shoes! You've heard of a "Personal Best"? Well, at the most recent ParkRun she took part in, Rosie managed to record her "Personal Worst" - her slowest time in over 40 events. She realises she isn't getting any younger, but finishing behind a poodle and a kiddy being pushed in a buggy was a bit humbling. ParkRuns are supposed to be a good way of just getting a bit of exercise on a Saturday morning, and interacting with folk, but the competitive edge is bound to cr

How to be invisible!
Just a life observation! It's fascinating how one often seems to be invisible to, or ignored by, our fellow human beings, unless they perceive that something we can be or do for them can benefit their own happiness or well-being. It's basic human nature, this thing of "looking after number one", pointed out in various psychology and self-help books. As Carl Vernon says in his book You Care Too Much: "Nobody gives two shits". I guess that Kate Bush has also "been there, seen

Our "England my Lionheart" walk
One of our favourite Kate Bush songs! And a theme tune for one of Rosie's "60 things at 60" Bucket List items - walking around England. A "nominal" version, though, taking us along pilgrim paths and through interesting historic and atmospheric places, rather than just "hugging the coastline". We already live by the sea, so it's nice to venture a bit more inland. Here's a map showing our progress so far. The lines in red are the bits we've done so far... as at May 2026. Oh, En

Nordic Walking!
A scene from the BBC comedy The Other One ©️2020 Tiger Aspect Productions, BBC I didn't know about Nordic Walking until I saw this episode of this great comedy! Thank you BBC! I understand Nordic Walking allows you to burn 30% more calories as you walk, as you are using your arm muscles to help propel you along. The wrist straps also allow you to release your hold on the poles when you are not pushing with them, e.g. when walking downhill, so you don't have to hold onto the h
