A one-day yomp of about 17 miles, shown by the blue dotted line on the above map. It started with a nice brekky at The Ivy in the attractive old city of Chichester, with its small-but-perfectly-formed cathedral. Rosie then took a somewhat meandering route along the Centurions' Way, and the Monarch's Way, to the small town of Rowlands Castle.
The day's starting point - Chichester Cathedral
Encountering some modern sculptures of Roman soldiers along the Centurions' Way
A very welcome seat along the way!
Through a tunnel/road bridge - the Centurions' Way is mainly along a repurposed disused railway line
There had been a lot of wet weather. Streams were overflowing and sandbags were out in various villages. Thankfully the walking boots were nice and waterproof... But would Rosie make it before sundown?!
After six hours, Rosie was heading west on the final couple of miles into Rowlands castle. Phew - just made it before it got too dark for comfort! Time for rest and food at the Robin Hood Inn!
The Robin Hood Inn provided a basic comfortable room at a very reasonable price. The landlady was friendly and very interested in Rosie's project of walking around England. There was a big menu choice in the restaurant area downstairs, and the salmon Rosie ordered was generously portioned, and delicious. She also treated herself to the Banoffee Sundae for dessert. Scrummy!
